My name is Lia Mei Pan, and I've been dedicating my heart and mind to the Chinese language and culture for four years now. Being part Chinese myself, even I born in Minnesota, and I believe China's history is absolutely fascinating. Attending such a wonderful performance on Feb 8 2015, it has taught me so much about Chinese culture and there are different nationality living in China! Of course, I enjoyed all of the acts that were performed at the Sunday’s performance, but I was most intrigued by the "Girls on Fire" dance. It was very lively and rose much excitement. I had the best time watching each and every act on stage.

China Just Overtook The US As The World's Largest Economy

Business Insider

By Mike Bird Oct 8 2014

Sorry, America. China just overtook the US to become the world's largest economy, according to the International Monetary Fund.

Chris Giles at the Financial Times flagged up the change. He also alerted us back in April this year that it was all about to happen.

Basically, the method used by the IMF adjusts for purchasing power parity, explained here.

The simple logic is that prices aren't the same in each country: A shirt will cost you less in Shanghai than San Francisco, so it's not entirely reasonable to compare countries without taking this into account. Though a typical person in China earns a lot less than the typical person in the US, simply converting a Chinese salary into dollars underestimates how much purchasing power that individual, and therefore that country, might have. The Economist's Big Mac Index is a great example of these disparities.

So the IMF measures both GDP in market exchange terms, and in terms of purchasing power. On the purchasing power basis, China is overtaking the US right about now and becoming the world's biggest economy.

We've just gone past that cross-over on the chart below, according to the IMF. By the end of 2014, China will make up 16.48% of the world's purchasing-power adjusted GDP (or $17.632 trillion), and the US will make up just 16.28% (or $17.416 trillion):

Our partners in Taipei Taiwan had one "Entering US for schools" seminar and we invited 101 students and their parent and there are over 200 students and their parent showed up to request to come and we could not find enough hosting families in US to satisfy those students' needs.

US News Reported that Mandarin Learning is MUST

https://www.usnews.com/opinion/knowledge-bank/articles/2016-10-25/teaching-mandarin-chinese-should-be-a-priority-for-american-schools

By Jack Markell and Gary R. Herbert

Oct. 25, 2016, at 7:00 a.m.

America's economic growth is inextricably tied to the strength of its bilateral trade and investment relationships around the world, but we will fall short of achieving our full economic potential if we fail to prepare the next generation to manage those relationships.

Tomorrow's leaders must be able to compete, work and thrive in a globalized world with diverse, multilingual consumers and economies in which China and the U.S. will continue to be major players. By offering American students early education opportunities to learn Mandarin, we can prepare them for careers in a world and workplace in which our country's bilateral ties play a consequential role.

We are encouraged by the growing number of American students who have begun learning Mandarin in school in recent years. The U.S. Department of Education reported that after Spanish, Mandarin was the most popular dual-language education program implemented by individual states in 2013.

Still, we have a lot of ground to make up if we are to equip our students with the necessary language tools to engage with the world's second-largest economy. While China boasts more than 300 million English-language learners, there are only 200,000 K-12 Mandarin language learners here in the U.S. Further, English classes are mandatory for Chinese K-12 students, but less than 0.4 percent of American K-12 students are currently studying Mandarin.

We are all higher educators and we are not only teaching academic studying to our students but also we are the educators who teaching different cultures.

I would like to share a great piece of speech by Mr. Kevin Rudd. He speaks in English and Chinese. This piece of speech had over 2 millions viewers. It will help us to learn more about China and US.

The former prime minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd is also a longtime student of China, with a unique vantage point to watch its power rise in the past few decades. He asks whether the growing ambition of China will inevitably lead to conflict with other major powers -- and suggests another narrative.
